Hardline Gunner: New Alpha Demo And Next Steps

Just over a month ago I released an alpha demo on itch.io. It had 15 challenging levels will a ton of unique enemies, power-ups and surprises along the way.  It was a great opportunity to get some much needed user feedback while the game was still early in development.

Now that the demo was out it felt like the perfect time to do some huge code refactors to HLG that I had been putting off.  I had been planning to switch over all the rendering code to use the LWJGL and openGL.  Naturally this refactor broke everything for a couple weeks but I managed to get the game to run again with just enough things working to see a real improvement on performance as well as removing many graphics limitations that not using openGL caused.  Now HLG really feels fast, responsive and full of pizazz. I can get away with more spam when it comes to graphics and can really light up the screen without worrying about lag.

I have so much more to fix but already I can see a huge difference in the graphical direction that HLG is going to take.  Here is a before and after of the first change: Explosions and missiles.
